Rust Free Californian – 1972 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40

This 1972 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 is said to be a rust free California example that retains its original blue paint and California blue plates. The FJ40 had a very long production run from 1960 all the way to 1983.

The factory paint looks great both in condition and as a suitable shade for this model. The seller does mention some minor damage from a hood blow back incident.

The engine compartment is aged but should respond well to an afternoon of mild cleaning and detailing (keep the rattle can on the shelf, though). The aftermarket battery bracket and rad cap stick out like a sore thumb. Returning original style versions should be an easy fix.

The interior is very utilitarian, as it should be. The painted floorboards show wear consistent with the mileage. Were factory mats an option? The factory roll bar is clearly present. The FJ40 is an extremely popular model. In this condition adds another level of desirability. It will be interesting to see where the bidding takes this one. Find it here on eBay in Merced, California with active bidding but still below reserve.

  1. I purchased this vehicle and have completed a full nut and bolt rotisserie restoration in original blue. The interior was color matched in rhino liner material and bottom black rhino liner. Pictures on request.
